Learning piano is like mastering a foreign language; we learn how to listen, speak, read and write.

I employ a foundation-based teaching approach. In the beginning, students will learn to read music, understand different rhythms and develop techniques for tackling challenging passages, musical expression and body movement. Once they reach an appropriate level, I introduce ABRSM piano exams, which not only focus on repertoire and scales but also strengthen sight-reading and aural skills.

Mastering an instrument is no easy task; it requires long-term dedication and engagement. Learning music parallels the process of learning a foreign language: listening means paying attention to the sounds you create, speaking involves singing the notes, reading is the ability to interpret written music and writing encompasses understanding music theory.

Many of my students have achieved merits and distinctions in their ABRSM exams, won top prizes at music festivals and regularly performed at school events. I have taught students from state schools to independent schools, including Alleyn’s School, Bickley Park School, Breaside Prep, City of London School, City of London School for Girls, Dulwich College, Dulwich Prep School, Eltham College and St. Paul’s School.

I welcome students from all backgrounds; it’s never too late to start learning as long as you have the passion.
